Greetings all,
The first calendar quarter of 2010 is gone and our chapter
has been busy with a number of initiatives so I thought this would be a good
time to bring you up to date.
I must begin however, with a huge THANK YOU to all of those
members who responded to our invoices and paid their $15.00 chapter dues. While a small amount for the individual, the
funds allow us to continue our efforts on your behalf.
Training
We have several opportunities for free training, and
recertification points upcoming.
1) On April 14th
we're sponsoring a technology symposium tailored to Hospitals, Schools and
Museums.
2) On May 5th
RETA Security, Inc. is hosting a School Safety Conference.
3) On June 3rd
Anixter, Inc. is conducting "Protecting Critical Infrastructure".
Please check our web site for details and registration
information. Again, all three sessions
are free and you will earn recertification points.
Additionally, to follow-up on an idea from a chapter member,
we purchased the CD presentation of the ASIS webinar from January 2010,
"Understanding the Violent Mind in the Workplace."
About the program:
As the economy continues to fall, workplace violence is expected to rise
rapidly. Understand the attitudes, beliefs, and mental images of perpetrators
from psychological and law enforcement perspectives and learn effective
redirection strategies. Components of a defensible workplace violence program
will be presented to help participants determine the effectiveness of their own
programs.
We will be
presenting this 90-minute session at several locations in the near future, both
in the city and suburbs. Again, check
our website for details and registration.
Attendance is free to you and you will earn 1 recertification point.
Monthly Meetings
At our April 20,
2010 meeting we will listen to James F. Pastor, Ph.D., J.D.
Present an
illuminated view of the terrorist threat in this country.
At our May 18,
2010 meeting we will hear a presentation about street gangs in Chicago and
their various criminal enterprises, and how these activities effect us all.
Following our
traditional summer break, we will resume on September 21 with representatives
from Target Corporation, discussing Organized Retail Crime and it's impact on
our businesses.
Golf Outing
Planning for our
annual Dick Norwood ASIS Open is well underway,
and registration is now open.
WE NEED SPONSORS, GOLFERS, AND
VOLUNTEERS.
Please check our website for further information.
Recognition
The ASIS
Professional Certification Board has announced the launch of the 2010 PCB
Certification Awards nomination process.
Every year, Certificants, business, and organizations across the globe
dedicate their time, effort, and resources to the advancement of ASIS
International Certification programs.
This is an important way to recognize their hard work and encourage
others to follow in their footsteps.
There
are two award categories:
·
Regional Award for
volunteers who have made a difference at the chapter/regional level
·
Organization Award of Merit for companies and/or organizations that have endorsed the
certification concept by encouraging and supporting their employees in efforts
to become certified.
If any of you would like to submit an individual or an
organization for these awards, please contact me at sellersj@uci.edu
.
Leadership
It is never too early to begin planning for next year. As such I encourage each of you to consider
how you might fit into the chapter as a volunteer. There is much work to do and many hands make it light. With your continued support we can continue
to offering a forum for the exchange of ideas at our monthly meetings and free
training opportunities.
As you see, there is a lot going on, come join us for some
or all!
Sincerely,
John K. Sellers, CPP, CIPM
